FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS
How is compounded medication different from generic medication?<br />
Compounded medications are uniquely formulated to meet an individual patient’s specific needs, whereas generic medications commercially available at chain pharmacies are mass-produced for the generic public. Crestview Pharmacy is a licensed compounding pharmacy that formulates specialty made-to-order medications. We are committed to producing only the highest quality custom-made medications that are tailored to address our patients’ needs and accommodate their preferences.
How do I order or prescribe compounded medication?
If you’re a patient who is interested in trying Crestview’s compounded medications, please consult with your physician first. If you’re a physician, please directly contact us with your patient’s prescription or refill request and we will collaborate to create a formulation that works for your patient. We are also happy to accommodate any dosage form, flavor, and other aesthetic customization at your patient’s request.
What kinds of health conditions can be treated by compounded medication?
Almost every prescription for almost every health condition can be compounded! Crestview specializes in creating compounded treatments for hormone therapy and weight loss, but we have experience with many other prescriptions and health conditions as well. Please reach out to us to ask about your prescription!
Is compounding legal?
Don’t worry, compounding is legal, safe, and regulated by the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA). As a licensed compounding pharmacy, Crestview’s number one priority is our patients’ safety and we strictly adhere to FDA regulations.
Is compounded medication more expensive than mass-produced medication?
That’s difficult to say. Mass-produced medications that are sold at chain pharmacies have standard price tags, but compounded medications are unique, so it is impossible to estimate any given medication’s cost with accuracy. This cost can vary depending on the dosage form, the equipment and techniques used, the accessibility and price of ingredients, the customization added for taste and appeal, and the length of time that our pharmacists and technicians may require to properly research and formulate your custom medication. Crestview is always happy to provide consultations with our patients about affordability and we will do everything in our power to help our patients claim reimbursement from their insurance provider when possible, though coverage is not guaranteed.
How long will it take my prescription to be filled?
The time frame for filling prescriptions can vary because Crestview’s pharmacists and technicians dedicate time to carefully formulate prescriptions to our clients’ specifications. Typically, we require up to two business days to formulate a compounded medication with the accuracy and high quality that our clients deserve; however, in some exceptional cases, additional time may be required. In all cases, we make our best effort to fill your prescription and have it available for pick up or delivery as soon as possible.
Where can I pick up my medication?
We recognize that our patients may have a wide range of physical mobilities, as well as limited time and competing priorities. For your convenience, Crestview offers at-home delivery services — via mail, delivery vehicle, or other means based on geographic proximity and/or patient preference — to ensure that you get your medication as quickly and easily as possible. Alternatively, for in-store or drive through pickup options, please see our business hours.
